LITR 5731: Seminar in American Minority Literature 2001

Index to Questions from Distance Student

and Email / Web Exchanges

(This exercise was limited to Fall Semester 2001. A description follows, after which you'll find links to various email discussions.)

Email exchanges with distance student

Each student enrolled in LITR 5731 is required to participate in at least two "email exchanges" with a graduate student who is taking this course off-campus as an Independent Study. This student, an outstanding undergraduate and graduate student at UHCL who has nearly completed her M. A. in Literature, has recently moved to Idaho. As an Independent Study, she will fulfill the course requirements with some variations, but her work will be evaluated separately from that of attending students in order to avoid any conflicting standards.

This situation provides an opportunity to conduct an experiment in distance learning. For most of our classes, she will email the instructor a question or comment regarding the week's readings. The instructor will post her message to the course webpage and email it to the class. Each student must respond to at least two of her messages with a reply of at least 5 sentences. Participating students should always signal their email system to "Reply All" so that everyone may see every exchange. The distance student will offer some response to the week's replies. All exchanges will be posted to the course webpage.
