Sexuality of the Future
Previous to this semester I have had minimal experience
and interest with the genre of speculative fiction. However, after reading
Stone Lives, it has become apparent
that the role of female sexuality in futuristic literature is an area to be
explored. As a student completing my Women’s and Gender Studies certification,
the role of female sexuality is a critical component in furthering the awareness
and analyses of gender roles and female sexuality. Analyzing the character of
June in Stone Lives to Lauren in
Parable of the Sower has the power of
creating an interesting dialogue concerning the juxtaposition of gender roles
and sexuality in narratives of the future.
