Patmos is an island of the Mediterranean where a man called John wrote the Bible's final book, Revelation, after witnessing on Patmos a vision of Christ's return and the Final Judgment. This John is traditionally associated with the Apostle John and the author of the Gospel of John.

Internal and historical evidence suggests that John was on Patmos late in the first century after Christ.
