Subsistence Economy

thanks to http://www.slideshare.net/reddyc94/subsistence-farming-46687564

Oxford English Dictionary: Subsistence Agriculture: With reference to farming, in which the produce is used for the producer's own subsistence and not for exchange.

subsistence diet n. the minimum amount of food requisite to keep a person in health

subsistence wage n. the amount of money a person must earn in order to achieve a minimal standard of living.

Traditional subsistence economies, in which sustainable methods can keep a limited number of people alive indefinitely, may be contrasted with modern growth economics, which posit abundance, profits, and constantly growing markets or populations.
