One of a class of woodland gods or demons, in form partly human and partly
bestial, supposed to be the companions of Bacchus.
A satyr was one of a troop of male companions to the Greek gods Pan
and Dionysus.
Satyrs, who lived
in forests and mountains,
often
appear as hairy, sexually excited men of nature with animal
features such as horses' tails or, in later times, horns or legs of
goats.
