The poet read her poem to the class... Class response was as follows... The respondent had an earlier copy of the poem and wanted to know why Laurie had changed line 4's wording from defame to slander. Laurie answered that it interfered with the rhyme scheme. Discussion followed about the image cluster in stanza two of linked, chain and brink. Laurie said that it evoked a sense of enclosure. The class agreed that line 11 provided the contrast between the technological world and the organic. Laurie ended by wanting to know if the poem spoke. We all agreed that it had a lot to say and was a good poem on many levels.
