Research Project Proposal

            I am interested in writing a journal regarding our third objective: “To account for Americans’ difficulties with colonial and postcolonial discourse.” I plan to explore the history of American imperialism and the contradictions between our country’s ideals and policies/practices at home as well as abroad. Some of the contents I am thinking of including are reviews of American scholarly reviews of postcolonial texts; a historical report on the Spanish-American War and the subsequent Filipino Insurrection; a short analysis of Apocalypse Now; a biographical report on Edward Said; and an exploration into how colonial-postcolonial discourse can contribute to the advancement of a multicultural perspective of American society.
