My choice for the research option is to complete two research postings. The theme for both of my postings will be food and the effects of colonialism on food. I love to cook and I love to eat so that is what sparked my interest in the food of the Caribbean islands and well as the foods of England. My first posting will discuss the cuisine of the Caribbean and how it has changed from colonial to postcolonial times. I will discuss the native foods and ingredients used in Caribbean cooking, how the people obtained their ingredients, and methods for preparing foods. I will explore how the ingredients, cooking methods, and availability of ingredients have changed as a result of colonialism. For this posting I will reference Lucy and explore the significance of food that is mentioned in the novel. My second posting will discuss the cuisine of England. I will explore the traditional foods of England, agriculture, and food preparation. I will also look at the ways the way colonialism influenced English cuisine as well as the way English cuisine influenced the cuisine of America and how American cuisine has evolved from colonial times.
