The CHILDREN of MEN

Movie Based on 1992 novel written by P.D. James

Dystopia

Set in the near future of 2027 in the United Kingdom.  Global infertility for 18 years only allows the human race a century to survive.  England is the last surviving government because of Environmental Destruction, terrorism and social collapse.  Refugees are not allowed into the only government, and are being persecuted.  In the midst of humanity's crises, Clive Owen (Theo) becomes a protector for the only pregnant women (Kee) in 18 years who is a refugee.  A Group called the Uprising wants to take the baby, kill Kee and use the baby for popularity and their agenda.  Fear of the violent government, The Uprising, and for the future of the only baby born in 18 years, resolves in the pursuit of “The Human Project” ( a New Society).    

 

Scene 1 –  Diego “Celebrity for being the youngest person on the planet”  We see that all of the other countries are dissolved.

 

Scene 18 -  Cease Fire -We see “Hope of Humanity” (the baby)

1.  This movie represents a Dystopia from environmental destruction, terrorism and political means, where Humanity has been affected to the point of only a century to survive (due to infertility), do you think humans current actions and/or trends are making a similar scenario in our near or distant future?

 

2.     How do you think we would treat refugees, if we were the last standing government?  How would people feel about children, if we were in the same situation, 18 yrs of infertility, would the youngest person in the world be of celebrity status?
