The Midnight Cry

Audio: "Midnight Cry"

Objectives:

1A. Apocalyptic

2C. Utopia

3. Future "written" or "being written"?

Summary:

The basis of the song is about the Second Coming of Jesus. The main text used is Matthew 25:1-13. This passage of scripture is known as "The Parable of the Ten Virgins." The parable's theme, according to Halley's Bible Handbook, is "we should keep our minds on the Lord, and be ready when He comes" again.

Questions:

  1. Matthew 25:6 states, "And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him." Based on this scripture and the song you just heard, do you think the "Midnight Cry" will occur? Why or why not?
  2. According to Halley's Bible Handbook, the second coming of Jesus will be herald with "a great sound of a trumpet" (Matt. 24:31), and indicated that it may be more than a figure of speech. Will this actually happen?

Discussion:

Lisa: Our attention is toward the Earth. We need to start doing something on the Earth.

Terri: I have always been taught and believe that there will be trumpets and a voice calling His people home. My faith makes me believe.

Keeley: Could the sound that is mentioned, could it be the cries of humanity? Maybe that is what the sound is.

Dr. White: Is the bridegroom literal also? Do we take these literally?

Kyle: The "Parable of the Ten Virgins" was one of the many parables that Jesus told the multitude. A parable is a story that has a moral to it and usually represents something. I think that the bridegroom in the parable represents Jesus Christ when He comes back for his bride in the Second Coming.

Michelle: If you watch the movie or read the books, the believers are the only ones to recognize the Anti-Christ, so maybe only the believers will hear a trumpet.

Sonja: I thought that only believers would hear it (referring to the sound of the trumpet).

Dr. White: The music and the lyrics move nicely. I like how it starts out literary and then moves biblically.

"Midnight Cry" (lyrics)

Verse 1

I hear the sound of a mighty rushing wind

And it's closer now than it's ever been.

I can almost hear the trumpet as Gabriel sounds the call

And at the midnight cry, we'll be going home.

Chorus

When Jesus steps out,

On a cloud to get His children.

The dead in Christ shall rise,

To meet Him in the air.

Then those that remain,

Shall be changed.

And at the midnight cry,

We'll be going home.

Verse 2

I look around me and see the prophecies fulfilling,

And the signs of the times, they're appearing everywhere.

I can almost hear the Father, saying Son go get my children,

And at the midnight cry, the bride of Christ shall rise.

Chorus

When Jesus steps out,

On a cloud to get His children.

The dead in Christ shall rise,

To meet Him in the air.

Then those that remain,

Shall be changed.

And at the midnight cry,

We'll be going home.

Ending

At the midnight cry,

At the midnight cry,

At the midnight cry,

At the midnight cry,

We'll be going home.
