Arc or State of the future:

  • Apocalypse-call for thoughtful insight before it happens
  • Evolutionary-broken spiral(start all over again)
  • Alternative-people will have to find a way to stop it

Dimension of the future:

  • Near or deep future-there is a lot of asteroids out there

Relevant course objectives:

  • Human outcomes-How big of an asteroid, how many will live, what kind of society afterwards?
  • Is this written or being written?

Other movies about asteroids:

Starship Troopers, Deep Impact, Asteroids

View film clip of Armageddon:

  • Here is when they are talking about the effects of an asteroid hit

Information on Asteroids:

  • An asteroid of a diameter of about 2km will produce severe environmental damage on a global basis. An asteroid of a diameter of about 15km will cause mass extinctions.
  • Astronomers estimate that there are more than 2000 asteroids larger than 1km in diameter.

Question:

  • Do you think that the end of the world as we know it will end by an asteroids hit or will we be able to do something about it by the time it happens?
