Thursday, 12 June 2008: Film / video presentation (option 3: Act 3, scene 4 from Hamlet in a contemporary film): Whitney Evans
Questions: 1.) Is Hamlet crazy, or is he in love with his mother? 2.) What does the sword symbol say about Hamlet? Does it help to prove or disprove Hamlet’s Oedipal urges? 3.) Is Hamlet a misogynist? Can he not love Ophelia because he is in love with his mother, or does he just generally dislike and distrust women? 4.) Is it ironic that Hamlet is in love with his mother (if he is), when he is so repulsed by the incest that is already taking place between Gertrude and Claudius?
